SpinQuest Trivia guide — how the category wheel works, three content modes, team play, TV Party Mode setup, and tips for running the perfect trivia night.
SpinQuest Trivia adds a wheel to the classic trivia formula — instead of a host choosing categories or following a fixed order, the wheel decides. Every spin adds anticipation, and every category is a fair fight because luck chose it.
The standard wheel has 8 segments:
Spin, see where it lands, and the question from that category appears. Simple, fair, and instantly more fun than a host choosing.
1. Predefined — the built-in question bank covers all 8 categories with hundreds of questions. This is the fastest way to get a game running — no setup needed. Good for general knowledge nights with any crowd.
2. AI Generate — the wheel shows decoy labels, and after each spin, AI generates a fresh question on any topic. Want a round of Stranger Things trivia? A question about 1990s NBA? Historical events from your city? AI mode handles it. Each spin uses an AI credit and the result is always a new question — you'll never repeat one. Best for groups with niche interests or when you want themed trivia without building a custom list.
3. Custom List — use your own SpinQuest wheel as the topic source. Each item on your wheel becomes a subject for a question. Build a wheel called "Premier League Clubs" and every spin generates a question about whichever club the wheel lands on. Perfect for themed trivia nights, classroom use, or corporate events with a specific topic focus.
Individual — every player competes separately. Each person tracks their own score. The host reads the question, players answer, the host marks correct or incorrect. First to the target score wins.
Teams — players split into two teams. The active team nominates a rep to answer, or the team confers and answers together. One correct answer = one point for the team. Great for larger groups (6+) where individual play would be too spread out.
SpinQuest Trivia is verbal by design. The host reads the question out loud. Players answer out loud (or buzz in, or raise a hand — house rules apply). The host then taps Correct or Wrong on screen. There's no auto-detection or typed answer system — the social, verbal format keeps it lively and prevents people from hiding behind their phones.
TV Party Mode transforms SpinQuest Trivia into a full game-show experience:
1. Host opens the game on a TV or projector — connect via Chromecast, AirPlay, or a laptop with HDMI
2. Players join on their phones — QR code or room code at spinquest.app/join
3. The wheel spins on the big screen — everyone watches the category get chosen
4. The question and timer appear on the TV — all players can read and think about it simultaneously
5. Host controls the flow — mark answers correct or wrong from the host device
TV Mode works especially well for larger gatherings (10+ people) where you want everyone watching the same screen rather than looking at separate devices.
Match your question pool to your crowd. Built-in Predefined mode works for general groups. AI mode works if you want custom categories. Custom List works if everyone shares a niche interest.
Set the right winning score. 10 points for a quick 20-minute game. 20-25 for a full trivia night. 5 for a tiebreaker round.
Use AI mode for company or team trivia. Build a wheel of your company's values, product names, or team members' fun facts — AI can generate questions around any of it on the fly.
Wild Card keeps experts honest. Even the most well-rounded trivia player can't prepare for Wild Card. Keep it on the wheel — it's the great equalizer.
Prizes make it. Even small prizes (first pick of dessert, skip doing dishes tonight) sharpen competitive instincts and make wins feel meaningful.
