Complete guide to SpinQuest Charades — how the wheel works, content modes (predefined, My Wheels, AI), team vs individual play, and TV Party Mode setup.
SpinQuest Charades takes the game you already know and adds a wheel to build suspense, unlock prompts, and keep the energy high. But the wheel has a trick up its sleeve — and understanding it makes you a better host.
Every round of Charades follows this exact sequence:
1. Spin the wheel — it displays labels like 🔥 HOT ONE, ⚡ WILD CARD, 🌟 MYSTERY — building anticipation for the whole group
2. "Everyone close your eyes" screen appears — guessers look away or close their eyes so the actor can see the prompt privately
3. Actor taps "Reveal My Prompt" — the actual word or phrase appears only on the actor's screen
4. Actor memorizes the prompt, then taps "Start Acting" — the timer begins
5. Teammates guess — calling out answers while the actor acts it out without speaking
6. Host taps the result — Yes (guessed correctly), Retry (keep going), or No (time's up, no point)
Here's the intentional design: the wheel's segment labels are decoys. They say things like "HOT ONE" or "WILD CARD" — not the actual word. The real prompt is picked from the category pool independently after the spin.
This is deliberate anti-cheating design. If the wheel showed the upcoming word, a sharp-eyed guesser could glance at it before closing their eyes. By keeping the wheel labels as suspense-builders rather than hints, the game stays fair. The spin still serves a purpose — it builds energy, and in AI mode it uses a credit to generate a fresh prompt — but the guessers genuinely cannot read the upcoming word off the wheel.
SpinQuest Charades has three ways to source prompts:
Predefined Categories — choose from built-in categories: Movies & TV, Animals, Food, Famous People, Actions, Places, and more. Each category has a deep pool of prompts. This is the easiest way to get started with any group.
My Wheels — use any SpinQuest wheel you've created as the prompt source. Every item on your wheel becomes a potential charades prompt. Perfect for themed nights: use a 90s Movies wheel for a nostalgia night, a Company Names wheel for a work party, or a running inside-joke wheel for close friend groups.
AI Generate — describe a theme and AI creates a custom prompt set on the fly. Want prompts from a specific decade, genre, or niche interest? AI mode can handle it. Uses AI credits.
You have full control over who gets the point when a prompt is guessed:
In 3+ player games, the host taps the name of whoever guessed correctly when awarding guesser points.
Individual mode — every player scores separately. Great for smaller groups where you want one clear winner.
Team mode — players split into two teams. When a team's actor performs and their teammates guess correctly, the whole team scores. First team to the target point total wins. Works best with 6+ players.
TV Party Mode is Charades at its best for larger gatherings:
1. Host opens the game on a TV or projector — via Chromecast, AirPlay, or screen mirroring from a laptop
2. Players join on their own phones — scan a QR code or enter the room code at spinquest.app/join
3. The wheel and countdown timer appear on the big screen — everyone in the room sees the spin and the live timer
4. Each player's phone shows their private view — when it's their turn to act, the prompt appears only on their device. Guessers see nothing.
This means no one needs to crowd around a single device. The TV runs the show; phones handle the private information.
